Having problems updating with Windows Update

Each time I go to update with Windows Update each time it just tries to install and then says

"The following updates were not installed:"
"Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)"

I'm trying to get the updates to the point where i can upgrade to Service Pack 2. Just having a lot of trouble getting there.

Any help would be appreciated.

 

Its actually my roommates computer, so as far as I know, yes. I don't think he'd know how to download one.

Go to the windows update site, go to reveiw update history, click on the
"red x" symbols in the failed updates, tell us what kind of error is listed, and if it is the same one every time (usually listed in the super user-friendly "ERROR CODE: <incomprehensible number> format MS loves! )

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think if validation or activation was the problem, we'd see it after the validation tool downloads, not before, so it's probably something else. Armed with the incomprehensible number, someone should be able to figure out (or at least take a guess at) what the problem is.

Ok, whats strange about this is that it wasn't all of what I actually saw in the browser. Sorry about it being so long, I had no idea.

I don't know why, but it never let me download the tool. I searched the Microsoft site and I found that. Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.
