    Greetings, noles23.

We need to know your operating system and service pack #, browser version, security software, etc.

If you suspect this might be a malware problem, I strongly suggest you go through the Malware Forum's Read & Run Me First thread, perform all of the suggested steps, and attach the requested logs to a new thread in that forum.
You may not be infected, but it might be best to check to be on the safe side.

Do you have your Windows XP disk? If so, try the following:

    1. Boot into Safe Mode as an Administrator or as a member of the Administrators Group.

    2. Once Safe Mode is running, click Start > Run, type sfc /scannow, and press Enter.

    3. If the file checker asks you to insert the XP disk, do so.

    4. Once the scan completes, reboot and see if your symptoms have changed.

Not having an XP disk might prove to be a problem, because it sounds to me like you've got either a corrupted explorer.exe, or some handle or thread associated with explorer.exe is damaged.

Try this: boot into Safe Mode with Networking - do you still have the same symptoms?

And, I still strongly suggest you go through with the Malware Forum guide - there are several infections that affect explorer.exe.

The fact that you don't have the issues in Safe Mode indicate some 3rd-party software may be causing the problem.

Try this: download and install Startup CPL. Run the program, and selectively disable the startups to find the culprit(s).

    Java is the culprit
disabled the damn thing and now everything works great
what do i need to do about java???

All you disabled was the Java updater and it works ok? Good.

Well, if you need to use Java, you MUST keep it updated as having an outdated version is a major vector for malware to enter your PC whilst browsing the 'net.

I'd use JavaRa once a week to check for newer versions of Java; once you install a newer version, use JavaRa to remove the older versions then use StartupCPL again to disable the new Java updater.

Assuming you mean http://www.leapfrog.com/en/leapfrog_parents.html then I see no problem with anything on there, even with Flash and Java blocked. I do see some comments over the last few days about something called "Connect" not working, no obvious replies from any staff on the site though so I've no idea if that's relevant.

Since you had some Java-related issues, there may be some corruption in your internet files caches.

Go to Control Panel > Internet Options, and delete your cookies and temp files.

Next, download and run CCleaner, which will clear any index.dat files.

Reboot, and see if you can properly access the page.

If not, what browser and version # are you using?

    Hi, aatony.

The program installs as an applet in your Control Panel named 'Startup' - just click and run. ;)

This reads like something within Windows is broken, do you have your Windows CD?

This is the same machine that you've just cleaned up in the Malware section, correct?

Far and away the easiest thing to do would be to try a Repair install of XP (it would need to be from a CD with SP3, original or 'slipstreamed', to suit your exact version of XP. Is there any way you can borrow one?
