    Hi.

I'm a n00b at installing this SATA HDD, I've tried almost everything.

My PC is quite old, I'm still running off a IDE HDD. It's got Windows XP Home on there. So I only I have one internal HDD ATM, I bought this 250 GB SATA (Seagate Barracuda) and I can't install it. How? And what is RAID? Must I set up both the IDE and the SATA to RAID? Right now I only need the SATA for more space, so I want it to be a slave, later I want ot install a OS on there, like W7. Both my BIOS and Device Manger can see this hardrive, even when I plug it into my SATA external case, but windows explorer can't see it. Please help me!

Since nobody's answered so far, I'm thinking that you might need a SATA motherboard if you use a SATA hard drive. If your pc is old, it might not have a SATA motherboard so that it's incompatible, but see what others say.

Can you post info on your mobo back so then we can assess it further. Use EVEREST Free Edition 2.20 or open your "Run" window and type dxdiag , System Manu and Model should be displayed here.
