    Hello,

Well i just purchased a Linksys E2500 got home put the installation CD connect the modem to the router and then used an Ethernet cable to connect the router to my PC(pc doesnt have a wireless card, using the router for my laptop) followed the Instructions completed the set up and then at the end when it reached 100% and was finished it said it was installed but said it could not connect to the internet. But when i go to my network settings it says my internet is connected and as the status, and when i go on my ps3 i am able to see the routers wireless connection.

So i am hoping that someone will be able to help identify what is the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thank You

    Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack do you have? (just will help with any windows settings or menus we may need to use)

Can you connect to the internet ok with your PS3 or Laptop? or is it that both desktop and laptop cannot connect?

What security software do you have installed as my first thought is as you mentioned the network settings say you have internet access is that a firewall is blocking this, so try disabling your firewall and see if that works, you can also boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot and choose Safe Mode with Networking) and see if you get internet.

    Hello,

I am using Windows Xp service pack 3

When i try my PS3 it says obtained ip address succeeded, internet connection failed, and my laptop is still in shipping.

Security software i have is AVG anti virus free edition 2011

and the only way i am on the internet is by just going back to using modem to computer by Ethernet cable which works fine

You are connected to the Linksys, the linksys isn't connected to the modem properly or it isn't validating the account for the modem. What kind of connection do you have? Do you have all of the account settings?

The top possilbilities that come to mind are
    - the default IP of the Linksys (192.168.1.1) is the same as the modem or in the same range as the modem. It's a good idea to change this common range even if it isn't the problem now.
    - the Linksys did not copy the settings/account logins for the modem properly and needs to be done manually. (this always happens to me with DSL)

There was one more, I'll be back.

    Hello handygal,

How would i go about setting it up manually, cause last time i set up the router and tried to do it manually i put in the routers ip 198.168.1.1 it just didn't connect, and could it still be the second problem you mentions if i have cable broadband instead on DSL.

Sorry if its a stupid question, new to this computer stuff.

    Thanks

Also when i have been trying to get the router working, in my network connections this things appears called "Internet Gateway" and it is Disabled and i try to enable it but it just fails every time.

So i was just thinking could it be this ?

For one, uninstall the software that came with the router. You do not need it. I personally wished that manufacturers would stop sending that garbage with the equipment. Once you have uninstalled the software, reboot the machine, router and modem.

First after turning back on the modem and letting it sync with the ISP, then turn on the router, and let it sync with the modem. Make sure that your computer is connected via the ethernet cable that came with the router, then you should be able to go to the router setup to be able to set it up to work with your ISP, change default admin password and SSID password.

After that, you should be able to unhook the computer, and connect via wifi.
