Taking a shot here as to whether this will be allowed (or not!?!) so here goes...

I am L00KING (I suppose one might say) to "pitch" some sketches/drawings that I've done, to a software designer/manufacturer (as my days of "physicality" - as I have known them - have all but drawn to an end). Some sort of "art" is about all I have left to "offer".

All I've done so far is some things for an "imaginary" Drive Cleaner-type of program, which I have come-up with several names for (and who knows, I reckon I best plug-it-in to a search engine or two to see if it's already "taken"?).

I suppose I could attach pics (wow, this is becoming Humbling real quick now), but I would await Admin or Moderators approval on my whole "idea" for this thread here in the first place....(?).

    Thanks in advance for consideration,
    glenn...

I am not sure what your aim is here. Do you want feedback on your ideas? Are you looking for some place that you can post these designs to and get some bids on their use? Should this be in the lounge instead of Buy and Sell?

EXCELLENT questions, ALL ~ and the short answer is, "uhhh I dunno" :confused

I suppose PART of my issue (paranoid FREAK that I am), is that I'm concerned someone could "borrow" any of my idea's that may be redeemable (worth anything), and I'd be left-out in the cold.

I'm no lawyer, but I suppose posting pics would at least afford me some sort of "Intellectual Property" rights (or better??), and "feedback" is absolutely desirable (of value) to me, "before" I would put the designs up anywhere for any sort of "bidding", sale/etc.

I did consider posting in the lounge, but got hung-up on the "non-computer discussion" ... clause :-D.

I AM MOST CERTAINLY OPEN to any/all ideas, comments, suggestions, advice, opinions, etc., etc., etc...

    Thanks again, and in advance...

One way to ensure copyright status is to mail the images to yourself ( and leave it unopened ). You then have created a firm date and authenticity. Let's move this to the lounge and see if anyone else has some input.

Thanks, and yes, I actually made copies earlier today to do just that (mail to myself) - thanks again, Tim.

Perhaps someone has some ideas about marketing that would be useful.

    Hi Glenn

Dunno where to start with this as you are covering two aspects here, one in software developement and the other in artwork. If you have artwork ideas for an application then you are likely to have to find a software developer who wishes to take on your project and use the artwork or the concept you have designed and turn it into a working application.

Likely a smaller software developer may take this one and you could advertise for a developer to put your concept artwork into a working app, talk over with them the idea you have and see if they wish to help you, you could split any profits made.

Maybe start a blog and give it a company name (something you think of) and promote your ideas, but this then opens you upto others taking your ideas, unless you have them copywrited and possibly in the case of software ideas, patiented for the IP rights (Intellectual Property) as this is what the likes of Apple, Microsoft etc all do, they think of ideas and patient them for later use.

Sounds a great idea Glenn and I wish you luck with this, it may take a while and need a fair amount of thought to get off the ground but stick with it.

You need to get your work out there, there loads of ways to pass on images to give people the idea without giving them the full image, low resolution, water marks all over, big monster water mark in the middle, you could also pick a few your willing to sacrifice and start spamming!

What would I know though,I have LOADS of little ideas written down in my big blue book for stuff like this. Never followed through with any rolleyes I invented a gear less gearbox when I was in my teens but found out it had already been invented 50 years ago, kinda took the wind out of my sails :-D EDIT Plus I can pretend I'm an amazing inventor genius and never need to have my hopes and dreams crushed!

    Good luck!

Hi Glenn. Yes, definitely on securing rights, first. very hard to secure rights after someone else has already stolen the work.
I believe a lot of the work on DeviantArt Dot com has artist's rights to it, so may me a good place to start. People like Wenchie may be able to point more out in that direction, if she can ever take time off from being a Mom, LoL!, as I know she has some very good non-commercial art there.
Whatever you decide, Glenn - secure the copyrights first, i.m.h.o. ;)
Once you've done that, it will be easier to see whoever is interested in purchasing said rights, and on what level of ownership they will have, (limited rights, full-rights, etc.)
    Good luck with your endevours.
Also, different protection methods like Rikky said.
(Rikky, it wasn't the same gear-less gears with the double varying conical drives in it that was invented before WW II was it, LoL!;))

WHOA & WOW!!! Thank you all very much for the INCREDIBLE outpouring of ideas and support! I think I'm going to try to follow ALL of this suggested here (haha-LOL) ... though first things first: I will be mailing-off copies of my work & idea(s0) to myself in the morning (as well as to a couple of close Friends & Family members) ... then I'll come back here - and we'll go from there~!

Thanks again - and see ya's soon......

I have heard about the mailing it to yourself to secure proof for copyright purposes. before. Then I also heard it won't hold up in court. I am not sure about it, maybe google could tell you for sure.

Yeah, I think most would argue that it's "better than nothing" (AKA: "The Poor-Man's Copyright") ... I think depending-on "how" it's sealed, one would have at least a 50/50 shot in court (and depending on local law).

    Here's an idea!! >>> http://www.digiprove.com/

Anyone familiar with this site, or any similar sites/services?
