Over the weekend I decided it was time to reformat my hard drive (new hardware upgrade and other issues). Normally I just use the XP Professional CD tools, but thought about trying Seagate's tool. I have a 200Gb SATA. It took 45 minutes to do 8%! I stopped the process and will turn to the old method.

Are there any other tools that I should consider or is this the cost of reformatting hard drives for new OS installation?

BTW...my patience ran out when my supply of M&M's dried up. :D

Personally I have always used the XP CD to full NTFS format any HDs, but I also delete the OS partition as well and recreate the partition and then format, is the quickest for me.

But if you wish to securely delete the data first then this is handy ( its not a formatted but secure deletion of data ) http://www.majorgeeks.com/Dariks_Boot_and_Nuke_CDRCDRW_Version_d4596.html then Use the XP CD again to create a partition and full format, but this may just be as long as your Segate software.

Upshot go with the XP CD :)

Re XP CD - that is what I do - delete partition then format and install new instance of OS. Problem is it takes forever, hence my question if there are any other tools that do it faster.
