    hello everybody,

lately, HD has been running continuously. My concern is that Computer will blow up.The only processes which show as running are taskmgr and Idle Process.

I have completed the entire virus scan as directed, and I run all the anti-malware programs that I have, nothing much was detected. I checked everything as your forum instructed before I've considered to post this thread and still no relive. I don't know what else to do, please, I will greatly appreciate your help. thanks inadvance. respectfully RJS.

Hi and welcome to MG ..I assume HD running all the time is normal pratice of a computer otherwise you would not be able to start and run PC .. can you be a bit more specific , do you mean processor is continually running at 100% ?? and could you give us some specifications of your computer.

Re: HD is working constantly in my PC.

hello Toke, first of all thank you so very much for your reply.

Well, Problem is the PC never goes on standby mode, I tried everything checked from display properties- power setting, from control panel in Power options and run every anti-malware programs just in vain, computer simply never goes on standby mode. the lights are constantly blinking as if some process is always running, and I hear constant fan noise. besides the fact that is annoying, I really think PC would blow up. task manager shows only system idle process around 90% CPU usage, and task manager itself, other then that it shows nothing.

I have Dell inspiron 6000, I bought it 2004, Computer was working almost perfectly, then suddenly this happened around month or so, I run diagnostic utilities; HD and every other parts were working properly. I reformatted and reinstalled OS very carefully,at the beginning even didn't connected to the internet, PC still was working constantly. I really don't know what else to do. I can post Hijack this log file if it is required or do any other requirement. thank you again. please help I'm really desperate. RJS

Hmm, have you got USB devices attached? If so then remove them and see what happens.

Download and run Process Explorer from Sysinternals, this is a little more detailed than task manager. I used to run McAfee Internet Security and after receiving an update from them, my computer started acting sluggish and the cpu was working at 90%, hard drive activity light constantly blinking. By using Process Explorer I was able to determine the problem.
    Good Luck

yes as jeepdriver states could be a malware/AV prog running, check your anti malware/AV progs are not set to start at Windows start up. I take it you dont have a disc in your ROM. have you tried booting in 'Safe Mode' key F8 to see if your prob goes away? Another diag is go into your 'RUN' box and type msconfig then go to 'startup' / 'Disableall' / then tick each prog in turn and rebooting as you go. Hopefully this will tell you what prgramme is causing the problem. What operating sytem are you using ??

Great, we have some progress then! It's time to delete your scanner/printer drivers, reboot and reinstall them and you should be good to go. (Crosses fingers :)) Sometimes drivers get corrupted for no apparent reason.
