HD jumper question

Hi there. I got and installed a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s HD. I've already formatted it and installed Windows, however I just now read that I needed to remove a jumper in the back to enable 3.0Gb/s mode, as it's defaulted at 1.5Gb/s. I've removed the jumper, but do I now need to reformat the drive, or will it automatically switch to 3.0Gb/s?

I would think that it would automatically switch to 3 GB/s capability. No reformatting necessary.

 

Your MOBO must also support SATA 2
If not, they are backwards compatible

 

I think you have the jumper thing wrong

No need for jumper to enable 3.0gb mode, it Automatic.
The jumper is used to force 1.5gb mode

There may also be some Mobos that use different headers for SATA1 vs SATA2??
