Hi All I seem to have got lost in the deluge the past few days, I had a prob with my Boot sequence and you advised to renew Power Unit which I did and the com booted first time, thanks for that but this has created a new prob. which I cannot fix. If the 2 HDs are connected they will not be detected on boot, if I connected individually then bootup OK, either will be recognised even the one on slave. Have exhausted all postings throughout the web. When I was trying to fix original prob. (power/boot prob) I took the battery out for 30 mins. Have set Bios/Cmos to original settings and both HDs are set at 'Auto' Help Please.

    Here are your choices

Here are some ideas to help you troubleshoot your problem.

1)sometimes hard drives of different manufacturers do not like to play nice with other drives so sometimes instead of configuring one drive as master and the other as slave you can just completely unjumper one or both drives and see if they are recognized. Use different combinations until you can get your BIOS to recognize both drives at once. You can also try to jumper both drives to cable select and see if that helps.

2)I am assuming you have your OS installed on the 2GB drive and simply added the 20GB as a slave to that one. The older smaller drive is likely to be a slow drive when compared to the 20GB. What you can do is create an image of the 2GB drive using a program like Powerquest Drive Image 6, and then use a partition manager and create a partition on your 20GB drive and restore the image you created of the 2GB drive to a partition on the 20GB drive. You would not only increase the overall speed of your OS but you could give your OS a little overhead if the partition you created is say 4GB instead of the 2GB it occupies now.

3)You can remove the 2GB altogether and just reformat/reinstall your OS'es on the 20GB drive.

I don't know how you get by with that machine you are running dude, I would think it is high time for an upgrade. Keep in mind that you may need a new case depending on the form factor of your existing one and you will probably need a new power supply of 300w or better.
