Don't make fun of my F150!

As to your problem, the answer is a definite maybe. Excessive, constant noise from a hard drive usually indicates the motor bearings are failing. This can result in file corruption and data loss. If you are sure the noise is mechanical and coming from the drive, I recommend you backup any data you don't want to lose and be ready for the drive to fail completely. Then run Error Checking or chkdsk /r (not the space before the slash). For large drives, this can take many hours, even more than a day.

The good news is that HD space is cheaper than ever these days . I got a nifty 1tb HD for under $100 like a year ago . I wouldn't be surprised if you can get a good quality 1tb HDD for $79 now. I just hope you can backup your important stuff before your current drive craps out on you .
I agree with Digerati, sounds like you have a hardware failure in your near future . Be prepared !
