For some reason I think I’ve saved the entire internet to my HD. Lucky me! Anyway for some reason my computer’s been saving just about everything I’ve look at without my knowledge until I received a warning my HD was almost full. I have a 200 GB HD and I have less than 6 GB of free space left. I’ve tried running WinDerStat and it quits at 38%. I’m running Space Sniffer and it’s at least showen me what file’s been collecting content.

The file is ST2ZOPE7 located in Temporary Internet Files/ Content IE5. It’s going to take me a year going through that file to delete everything that’s junk there. My question is what kind of trouble will I get into if I just delete ST2ZOPE7 altogether?

    Thanks

Not exactly sure what this file contains; however here are a few tips on easing the space crunch.

Try downloading Advanced Windows Care in the downloads section. It's free and will clean junk files off the drive.

As low as drive prices are, it might be worth upgrading to a larger drive. If you have a an open SATA port, 1TB drives are about $60; 500GB are as low as $40.

The other option is to move music, movies, etc. to an external USB HDD - 1TB units can be found as low as $80; 500GB as low as $50.

If you get a Seagate brand drive you can use their Disc Wizard software to clone the OS and data from the old drive to the new one. Once cloned you can reformat the orig. HDD for backup use.

Putting in a larger drive should also speed up your PC a bit. My experience is that, once your boot drive hits about 80% of capacity it slows things down.

    Hope this helps :)

    Thanks,

I'm running the Windows Care program and see if that helps. I only have about 50 GB of important stuff on my HD, the rest is junk I don't want.

You can download and install CCleaner from here at Major Geeks. I have used it for quite a while, on Win98, 2000, XP, and Vista machines - never had it cause a problem. The first time I used it I was stunned at the amount of junk it cleaned from my system. If for some reason it can't delete a tempory internet file, reboot the computer into safe mode and run it again - could be some program has a lock on the file.

Also, if you are using a version of windows that has the system restore function you can delete all but the most recent restore point. Depending on how long your system has been up and running this can free up a lot of space.

Most often tempory internet files can be deleted with no worries. It seems odd that a temp file like that would grow so large on a healthy system. What kind of anti-malware programs do you run?

Wow! Downloaded Advanced Windows Care, purchased the upgrade for $15.00 and ran the program. It freed up 85GB of space for me! Best 15 bucks I've ever spent!

Although there are many good cleaner/tune-up programs available, AWC is my favorite. The free version is decent; the paid version does an even better job and is a fraction of the cost of competitors.

Glad the tip worked out well for you. :)
