   For a new laptop would you recomend paying $150 to upgrade the HD from 80gigs to 160, Or should i just buy an external HD for cheaper?

   Personally, I would go for the external HDD. Laptop 2 1/2" drives can be notorious for going bad. That way your data stands a better chance of survival.
