    Hi Guys,
On Friday night the power went off in the house, so i put the trip switches up and the power seemed fine but as my pc was booting up the power went again. and now my pc will not boot all the way on.

it starts with the main black screen checking for stuff and it finds the two master and the two slaves HD and cd but then it stops and just flashes as if it was searching for the next thing it is ment to do. Then it opens the safe opsion screen asking what happened and do i want to start windows normaly or in safe mode, safe mode with networking or saf mode with promt. and it gives me 27sec to decide. i hit enter and star as normal, which runs for about 15secs then flashes very quickly a blue screen with writing (but to fast to read) the pc gives a beep and goes back to the set up again. I left this for a while and it it kept doing this for about half hour. and never getting to load windows fully to the login/password window.
i put the windows xp home edition disc in hopping that it might boot from that but it not.
The computor shop has had my pc two days now and want to reformatt again. is this my only choice?

    cant remeber to much info
    windows xp home edition 2.5.2606
    640 ram?

    Regards
    Terry

First, I would see if it boots ok in safe mode. If it boots to safe mode I would run a checkdisk on the drive to repair any File System errors. If it doesn't boot in safe mode or after the checkdisk then I'd run a repair on that installation from the windows CD.

Hi kodoNice to hear from you again, shame it could not be under better circumstances.

it wont boot in safe mode ar any of the choice on that screen it will just run up all the thing as if it was going to you know the long lines with all the drives and things on then it pauses gives a beep and gos back to the start again.

I am in an internet cafe at the moment and need to know if i can fix this at home myself or let the shop reformat and lose a ton of stuff like they did last time.

I am sure it is a program file prop as they are no vireuses or nasty stuff in there, on my xp pro when the power went off it used to check disc files before running but this has not done that.

    so what you think
    Mr Kodo

    Terry,
I would take your windowsXP home cd and boot from that and run a repair on your current installation. This will replace any corrupted system files on your machine. You'll have to make sure, though, that your CD ROM's boot order is before the primary hard drive in the BIOS or the it will skip searching for a boot CD. The order should be A: (Floppy) then CD-ROM then IDE1 (primary hard drive).

When windows boots to the install screen, follow the onscreen instructions for repairing the installation.

    Thanks Kodo,

I think that was what i was nearly gonna do on friday when this happened.
Can you confirm that that is when you hit delete to go into set (which is what you call BIOS)
and change the order there? to what you said [The order should be A: (Floppy) then CD-ROM then IDE1 (primary hard drive).
also my floppy does not work so can i just disable the floppy and put the cd rom befor the IDE1 ?

    Regards
    Terry

that is correct. Once that is configured. save the settings and then reboot with the windows cd in the drive.

    Thanks alot,

i will go and get my pc out of the shop where they said they have taken my hard drive out and are running some scans or something. (i dont think they know what they are doing which is why they just want to reformat) and i hop to thank you again later from home when i am back on line and in touch with the real world.

    Regards
    Terry.

when you say "done that", can you be more specific as to what "that" means? is that booting off the cd or running the repair.. ??

What did you do to get 'NTDLR is missing"?
Make sure you don't have a floppy disk in the drive.
Did you reinstall with the XP CD?

You might want to put the drive in another system if there is data you need off of it, and then just wipe and load.

I have experienced this blue screen in and out of the field (never personally though, coincedently) and have never recovered from it.

sorry about the lack of info

i try the install bios config that kodo said and thisis how it went

    Windows is setting up
    Set up is oading
    set up is starting windows

    Press R for repair

Then it stops and at the bottem left it says Examining 76317MB disk0 at ID0 on bus 0 on atapi

I tryed this twice and then put the HD in my mates pc where it run and said that the NTLDR files were missing so i copied his files from his drive to mine and then run my windows, where it said some files were missing and it copied files from his drive to mine and reinstalled window this took about 45mins and then when i rebooted it came back to the blue screen again and ten asked if i wanted to open in safe mode and stuff.

i have now put the hd back in my pc to see if the config in mates pc was the prob so it is installing again. in mine now
    talk soon
    i hope

You should attach your HD to you'r mates PC as a slave, get any needed data and just wipe and load. I don't think you're going to recover from this, plus from all the time you are testing this, you could be up and running.

    so now you tell lol,

i think your right 4hours down the line,
my hd works fine as a slave in my pc but wont act as master in mine.
should i buy a new hd as a master and keep this as slave or if i take off the files i need will reformatting be ok for this one?
    erry

Hard to say. When you cut power to a working HD, it can damage it permanantly. I would save the data and try the reformat, most likely this will work OK. If not, than you may want a new HD, and discard the old one....

So here i am at home and back on line. one good thing.

i have a nice new HD installed and i have put my old one in as the slave, now there are a lot of program files and stuff on there but only about 15% of what i had.OOPPSS just noticed that i now have no

windows shuting down have to go sort stuff out again lsass.exe

  16. terrytheturk

So as i was saying before laslla thing decided to shut down my pc.

If i still have a lot of the program files on my old HD which i am using as a slave, well i think it is a slave my comp is showing C: D: E: but when it botts it has a few more things on the black and white screen it say pri then the slave then the rom smart then it has the drives again at the bottem.

Is there any way to find my files or restore, Ah will restore work if i went to that or will it only have started now from putting the HD in.

I have backed up on a 20GB Peerless thing but that was for all the very very importance stuff i still have lost a lot of files.
When i went to load all the safty stuff from there like zone alarm and other spy ware prog. it told me that an exception had been made and could not use them. so it looks like spending the nibht downloading all the programs i use to have.

All i am asking is do i have to write all the stuff off on my old HD and go out and get pissed or is there some kind of recover tool that might still find file and move them to the new HD?
    Regards
    Terry

    that is a virus..

well, lsass is not a virus but the activity resulting from the virus uses lsass to shut down your box..

Yeah that i think was a virus hit as the first thing i did when i put the Drives back in was to get on line, and i had no protection as my zone alam pop up AVG and stuff were not active as they are all on the other drive. i have downloaded zone alarm and is firewalling me i am just scanning with panda to check for virus. then i will down load all the anti virus and spyware sweepers and blockers to be safe, i thought i could just run the set up from the other drive but i cant, so all new by the looks of things, must check windows update as well then.

Any ideas if i can find any files on the other drive?

data recovery apps can do that, personally I like GetDataBack from www.runtime.(org, com i forget), it costs 80$ but it did save me from a disaster or two, it will only recover your files if it is software damage(from a virus or if your file systems get messed up somehow) it is my understanding that it will not recover your files if the drive is physically damaged(like if it got run over by a car, i can't think of a good example right now .. lol)

So the end of this tread,

I have lost every thing and i have a nice 80GB paper weight

    Thanks to all below
