HD won't boot

Hi, I have a Inspiron E1705/9400 and 100GB HD at boot up it merges in to dos asking to start windows in normal, LNC, safe mode, ect ect, no mater what I pick the blue screen flashes and reboots and I start the presses over and over. I'm able to connect the drive externally and all the files are there. Is it safe to say that this HD will work if I re-load the OS? :confused :confused :confused

note: I have a second drive and the laptop is working fine with that one.

 

I'm not sure exactly what you want to do. So be cautious. Reloading the OS will destroy all data on the drive.

If you are just asking if the boot loop is a software or hardware problem then the answer is the HD is probably fine. The boot loop is almost assuredly caused by a problem in the XP system files.

 

Thanks, I don't care for the data I have it backed up and on a second drive the reason I'm wondering is because I'm upgrading to windows 7 and wonted to know if i can reformat to windows 7

 

You should be fine loading Win7 on that HD. If you don't need any files on that HD than let Win 7 do a clean install (I believe that will be the recommended option suggested during install).
