I have a DELL PC GX270 that came with a MAXTOR Hard Disk 40GB (Model No:6E040L0510653 DiamondMax Plus 8). It is documented on the Maxtor website that these Hard disks have potential problems with their firmware and g-table gets corrupted eventually. I had given the disk to a data recovery agency locally but they returned back to me after a week saying that - "file structure is visible but data integrity is lost". I am able to connect the disk as slave and view the files but the contents are scrambled. Can't open my visual basic projects. Can't open access database. Can't open my word docs. Any salvage possible at this stage.

Not unless you're willing to pay thousands of dollars. If you've taken the drive to local data recovery professionals and they can't help, your only real option is to find more expensive and bigger data recovery businesses. As in some place that can disassemble your hard drive in a clean room and try to read the data off the platters using a different read head and a different drive controller.
