HDD legacy mode

Having some problems with a new HP laptop i got for an employee at work. it came with vista home premium which i cant join to the domain. the employee doesnt want vista anyway, so i would like to install xp on it. the problem i ran into last time i bough a dell laptop was i had to change the hdd controller back into legacy mode so i could install xp. this HP doesnt even have that option in bios, so now i dont know how to install xp.

any ideas?

 

do you have xp with sp2 or 3 on it? i think that if you can get an install disk with sp3 on it, it will be able to install. there are other ways, like making a slipstream installation disk, and putting the drivers on the disk. try searching for ways to do that. or if you know how to do a network installation, there might be a way to get the drivers into it that way.

 

its an sp2 cd. im trying to find the drivers, but so far no luck. still looking though. ill check out what slipstreaming is all about.

 

its an HP, but yeah i did call them. they are worthless when it comes to tech support. Unfortunately since it isnt my own computer, i dont have too much of a say as to what we get, so im told to just send it back and get the same one with vista business edition so i can join it to the domain and be done with it. i wont even be using it, so whatever. less work for me.
