I have a Laptop that crashed and need to retrieve some files before reformatting. I have a Thermaltake BlacX SATA docking station and my main computer uses Window Vista just like the laptop. When I insert the HDD in the docking station, the drive shows up but everytime I try to go to it, it says "F:not accessible. Access denied". I check the permissions and set them all to my name and took ownership of the files on the drive but it still will not let me into the drive itself. Any help would be appreciated.

My recommendation would be to use a Linux liveCD to attempt to retrieve your data. Ubuntu is very user friendly: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

All you have to do is to use a program such as Alex Feinman's ISO recorder: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

to burn the ISO to a blank CD, and then set your BIOS to boot from the CD first, and you have a perfectly working OS running from the CD drive that will not affect your computer in any way.

This should avoid the Windows file sharing problems.

Let me know how it works,
