hi all, got a problem with my daughters acer extensa 5220 running win7 ultimate, she turned it off with the main power button today and when she turned it back on it came up with the black screen of death and the error message "no operating system found" i went into bios and its not recognising the drive, is it a new hdd job or might there be a solution, thanks in advance

    Hi

Being this is a laptop, a very simple troubleshooting step COULD solve your issues... laptops have "hot swappable" hard drives, and usually a quick access cover to get to the hard drive. Simply remove the access port (using a small Philips head screwdriver), unplug and replug the hard drive, as the connection may have gotten jarred loose.

If this doesn't solve the issue, when you turn on the laptop, press your ear against the hard drive access cover to hear if it's spinning up, etc. If it isn't, then the hard drive could be bad.
