I have an external HDD, 2T. Using Win. 10, I have had it for about a year and have lots of programs on it. I don't know what occurred, but when I try to open it I get this message M/:is not available. Access denied. In control panel it shows a healthy partition. Need some advice. T.I.A.

What else are you running? I have Advanced System Care and it will disable autoplay on USB drives to stop possible malware infestation. I had to choose Restore and then Ignore in the Details list.

Also, when you right-click on Computer, select Manage and go to Disk Management, what shows there when the external drive is connected?

Thanks for the reply. I also have Advanced System Care and have had it for years, with this drive and never a problem. In disk management it show a healthy partition.

You could try this utility. I've needed it from time to time. There's also a way to add "take ownership" to the right-click context menu in Win 10.
