Backup as much as you need to keep. Then re-install Windows? It may be your hard drive going but the odds are it is something else. What Firewall and Anti Virus software do you use. You could have caught something serious off the net. What operating system are you using, W98/W98SE/ME/2000/XP Home/XP Pro or what? What system specs? Bazza

Win XP Pro P4 2.4, 512 DDR 40 GB Maxtor blah blah blah

And it wouldnt be a virus, cuz as of right now, i have no connection to the internet because we are building a new house and it is not done yet, but i run Norton System Works 2002 and Sygate Personal Firewall

.... or at least use the Windows system maintenance tool to run a surface scan on your hard drive.

You should get no bad clusters. If you do, it's usually a sign that something is going on in there that shouldn't be. Back up whatever is important to you, because you may be about to lose it.

If you keep the drive in service after getting bad clusters, run a surface scan frequently. If new bad clusters keep appearing, your drive is terminally ill. New bad clusters will likely continue to appear, and to accelerate in frequency of appearance. Data written to a cluster that goes bad may or may not be recoverable.

Go to your hard drive manufacturers web site and download their diagnostic tools and run them. If they show the hard drive to be OK, then I would suspect either the memory or Power Supply as the problem. :)
