I have an HP Desktop that was accidentally restored using the Windows System Backup/Restore program. Everything that was on this PC that was current was lost since the Backup program (system restore point) was last done in 2007. How do I restore the files and data or undo the restore point. It's been to several data recovery places (i.e.GeekSquad) and is about the be sent to another company with "laboratories and engineers". Don't know if this is the best idea. I was wondering if anybody could recommend the best course of action, programs or let me know if this is possible and save me some money. I'd rather find out it's useless effort than spend money. :cry

Hello and welcome to Major Geeks. If you could give us some information on your Computer and what type of hard Drive ,, Sata or Pata/ OS, XP or Vista and is it partitioned. There is a lot of software out there that will retrieve your data intact. Why are you not able to ''RESTORE'' your computer to the date where you restored it to 2007. If you go back to the restore facility you should be able to undo .. like it will say 'UNDO LAST RESTORE POINT' hit that and it should bring it all back.

It's a Western Digital 280GB partitioned into two volumes (1)Main drive (2) HP Recovery volume - holds HP restore program. What happened is that a tech guy was installing Norton and seen that it was uninstalling files, so they stopped it and did a system restore. The restore point was last done in 2006 so that computer was backed up from then. They tried to do an undo restore but that did not do anything. Tried PC Inspector and another Recovery Software.

This seems somewhat Bizarre that Norton should start deleting certain progs/files but what is done is done and thats not going to solve your prob.
If the syst restore is of no use now there are many data recovery progs out there, MG has quite a list as of below. Good Luck :)

    Hi Vho,

If you used the System Restore that came with XP and were able to restore to an earlier date then you should be able to get back to where you were when you did the restore. My XP Home Sys Restore plainly states that all changes are reversible. Never done it so don't know details. Check it out.

    Good Luck, Jim
