I'm frequently seeing recommendations of having 1 hdd for your OS and other programs and then getting a second hdd strictly for capturing video and if possible/necessary a third hdd for the final encoded output.

I was just wondering if there would be a difference/advantage in using SATA drives rather than IDE in this type of setup where each drive is being used for a different purpose

Oh man, I was looking at the SATA adpter cards thinking of going with the 150. Claims of faster speed are the lure for me. If a file is 3 gig and the sata is half again faster, that could save a bunch of time.

so you think there would be a noticeable difference in swapping over to sata?

I think it would. Haven't tried it, but data transfer can only be as fast as the slowest part. If you're processor and memory is up to the challenge ;)

haha.. Everything sounds good in theory, especially when it’s regarding something I’d like to do to my computer :)

I don’t think I'll be 100% convinced until I hear it from someone that has tried it ;)

I know what you mean, z rated tires don't make the car go faster and a bigger engine is only as good as the tires that puts the power to the ground.

So while the sata 150 may not show overall better performance, at leass when you need it you'll have it, kindof upgrade would be my guess.

I'm in shock at how little responce your question has received, I thought this was a geek board  I would think someone has done this before and would have some tips or insight.

Might try poking the beehive to get some action :D

I would guess there could also be other issues to consider as compatibility etc also. Like you said, sounds good on paper.
