Hello all. I have two hdd's, one for windows and one for backup. I recently formatted my smaller hdd for a fresh start. After the reinstallation of windows xp pro my smaller hdd showed up (i guess it would have to considering windows is running on it) but my bigger hdd did not show up (under my computer).

When i go to control panel>system>hardware tab>device manager the second hdd shows up there, but just not under my computer (i can't browse/use the hdd but the computer "see's" it.)

I have an 80gig seagate barracuda st380013 AS SCSI and a 120gig seagate barracuda ST312002 6AS SCSI hdd. both are SATA hard drives if that makes any sense. the mother board is an ASUS K8V deluxe. some more info that might be useful Location of the 80 gig Bus Number 0, Target ID 0, LUN 0. Location of the 120 gig, Bus number 0, target id 2, LUN 0

also it seems that my smaller hdd was assigned C: but my other hdd which usually gets D: has no letter at all. i know this because when i right click C: under my computer and go to properties, then the hardware tab at the top it will show both hdd's. clicking on properties for the bigger hdd then going to the volume tab and hitting the populate button shows the hdd with no letter assigned.

Sorry for such a LONG post but i wanted to throw in as much info as i could whether it was useless or not. Thanks for any help guys!

No it doesnt really are they scis or sata?

Navigate to control panel, admin tools, computer management, strorage, disk management, see if you can see the drive there if so right click the drive and try to change the drive letter and path of the drive.

Also if you have just installed windows go to ASUS and download all the latest motherboard drivers and install.

    PROBLEM SOLVED!

i started doing research on the problem on google. it seemed that it was a pretty common problem and strange enough a lot of them seemed to have something in common, they had installed some sort of norton system in them. i'm not a fan of norton by any means but their program norton go back i've found to be pretty convenient and i had installed that last install. i reinstalled norton goback and voila! my problems were solved. i've now got all my backup data.

thanks for the input. i actually tried to assign a drive letter, but it wouldn't let me. it would only allow me to delete the partition. anyways, hope this helps someone else when they have the same problem with stupid norton software.
