i bought a new WD 160GB drive yesterday, and install was fin, but my PC only sees 130GB. If i partition off a 30GB piece will i see the rest of my storage space???

hmmm, have you gone into disk management and seen if it shows up as 160gb? i suppose partitioning off 30gb couldn't hurt as you could always get it back.
when installing i suppose its a good idea to create at least 2 partitions, especially with a disk that size...

Try looking for a Bios Update to get past that limitation... Flash it, Reboot, and *poof* you should have your full amount (btw, formatting takes a few gig off, too)

Windows XP SP1 and above are the only windows operating systems that recognize drives larger than 137 GB. You may need to use a dynamic drive overlay utility if you are using an older OS. The option is included in the CD that came with your new hard drive. There is more info in the instructions that came with the hard drive.

Windows 2000 recognizes 48 bit LBA too :)

    With SP4, I think.

It says 160gb, will be about 157 though, formatting shoudn't take anything off, the drives are never exactly what they say.
My 80gig is 77 and my 20gb ipod is 18.5.
