    Hi all,

I am a total tech noob, and it doesn't help that I'm in Korea, where my TV is in Korean. :cry

Anway, here's my problem: I heard that I could watch things on my tv screen that were on my laptop if I bought an HDMI cable. (Someone else said I need something else for sound...but I don't know.) So I bought an HDMI cable, and I plugged it in from my computer to my led tv screen. At first, my computer would change its format a little but the screen would still stay on. Then, somehow when I would plug it in, the computer screen would just go black. I tried hitting fn+7 but that didn't do a thing. Now every time I plug the hdmi cable into the tv the computer screen goes black while the TV screen still does nothing. I pushed the button on the side of the TV to HDMI, so I know that wasn't the problem. There's some kind of error message on the TV, but it's in Korean unfortunately.

My computer: A Sony Vaio (Windows 7)
The TV: Daewoo LED TV (just a screen)

Included is a link of the picture of the TV error message in case anyone knows Korean. :p Thanks for your help.

I'm assuming "F7" is the key that toggles between the laptop screen and an external one. When doing this, be sure you are holding down the function ("fn") key (usually near the space bar) while pressing F7.

If this gets rid of the error message on the TV (or if you can see the PC display with the HDMI cable hooked up to the TV), right click on the Windows desktop and choose "Screen Resolution". This will take you into a screen that allows Windows to detect and identify monitors. Although I'm only running one monitor at the moment, I think this screen also offers an advanced settings mode that will override the "F7" key if required, making the HDTV your primary display.

If all this fails, go to CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>DEVICE MANAGER and (preferably with the HDMI cable hooked to the TV), check the video drivers - if there is a "X" or "?" by any device, click on the item and choose "update driver".

As for the message on the TV, I think it translates into "Excuse me, stewardess - I speak Korean." :-D

Good luck - hope this helps.
