    Hi,
I have my TV (sony bravia) connected to my Xbox with a Hdmi cable and it works just fine. Every now and then I plugged the TV via the same hdmi cable to my laptop (dell inspiron 14z w/ Win 7) to watch movies. I never had any problems with it.

Then one day it stopped working and when I plugged the tv to the laptop there was no image nor sound, even though the laptop recognized the TV was plugged. But it still worked when I used it with the Xbox, so I ruled out that the problem had to do with the cable or the TV. Then I plugged my laptop to another TV with the same HDMI cable, and it worked, so apparently it's not the laptop either. I don't really know what's the problem, I figured it could've been a resolution problem so I set the default options of the TV, but the problem remained.

Any ideas to get this to work again, please??
    Thanks in advance

Some laptop PCs have a switch on the keyboard that toggles the display output between the notebook screen and the external (HDMI) screen.

Next time you hook the PC up to the TV, look for one of the function ("Fn") keys that has a screen on/off icon. Hold down the "Fn" key (near the spacebar) while pressing this key. With any luck, it should transfer the video output to the TV.

    Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for your reply gman863! But that's not it, actually that's how I've always done it until it stopped working.

    Any other ideas?

Before you start digging into the PC, I'd try another HDMI cable. Since HDMI cables are similar to Ethernet cables (several small wires inside), there is a slight change it may be defective or you may have accidentally stretched it too far, resulting in one of the tiny internal wires coming loose.

I'd also go into CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM > DEVICE MANAGER to be sure all the video drivers are up to date and/or not corrupted.
