Just been reading and watching some of the news on it, it sickens me as I watch live footage with the phrase "We are watching this as it happens" this is as the wave cosumes a town and acres of farmland, houses in the wave rolling around like a pop can, then they said "Lets go back to the studio"
At this point people are dying, drowning and/or losing everything they own.
So back to the studio..... and they start talking about the effects on the economy.
Why do we worry so much about money? I'm quite sure those caught up in it are NOT thinking about the price of gas. Yes the economy will be effected but you know what, right now lets worry about the people, screw the economy. Sickening.

This is also just another event that beckons the question of "What have we done to this planet"

My heart and thoughts go out to any and all affected by this catastrophic event.

8.9 on Richter scale the most powerful ever recorded in Japan with an intensity of 7,the only saving grace is that it hit off the coast and not on mainland Japan.I watched a lot of the live feed easy couple of hours this morning and its just carnage, its practically more disturbing than 9/11 as you could see bodies and people being caught by the wave live on the 24 hour news channels.

Not seen any news on the Japanese nuclear power plant yet, apparently they can't get coolant on to core and its overheating but they have backups in place,no radiation leak the last time I checked.

Approx. 400 dead and 600 missing in the quake and tsunami in Japan, so far.
One train is missing in the Sensie quake area.

The TV coverage of the various parts of Japan are truly shocking. It is around 6am Saturday local time and daylight is just breaking so the extent of the damage is just being updated. :cry

Ten thousand missing in Minamisanriku and the nuclear power plant has exploded and radiation has been leaking, its now 1000 times above normal radiation levels in the 12 mile exclusion zone around the plant.

The explosion at the plant was MASSIVE it send a shockwave up into the sky and blew the building around the reactor apart. The Japanese authorities say it wasn't a meltdown the nuclear container is still in tact, the explosion was due to a wall falling down which I don't understand:confused the explosion looked like a high explosive.

Five other reactors are also in a state of emergency due to the failure of the cooling system.

The blast is the building around the reactor core being blown apart.
