Running asus av7400mx in windows xp professional. No longer have ANY sound, CD, E-mail, tones, NOTHING. Occasional static from speakers. While following Microsoft troubleshooting, Symantic found a malicious script objedt under device manager and would not allow me to quarantine. Everything else I have checked indicates functioning properly.
HELP I am tired of the silence

Well, it's difficult to make suggestions given the sparse amount of information in your post, but I'll give a shot :)

If there's a volume knob on the speakers - is it turned up? Is the cable from the sound card to the speakers firmly connected at both ends? "Occassional static" can indicate a marginal audio cable connection, or a cable with broken wiring.

On the computer side, in Windows: Under Volume Control: Mute All isn't checked? Nor Mute on Line In? (if that's how your speakers are connected)?

Volume under Volume Control isn't set to minimum? Same for Line In, if that's how the speakers are attached? Is there a third-party mixer program installed? If so, it's not muted, volume turned down, etc?

If your speakers have a headset jack, there's no headset connected?

Also, you're sure that the cable from the speakers is connected to the correct jack on the computer?

Finally, have you considered the possibility that the speakers failed? If everything else fails, buy a cheap set headphones, and try them.

    Regards,

    dj

    Thanks DJ.
Yes to all, seems we have them working BUT all volume controls internal and external set to max and although we are now gettingsome sound, volume is low. Any other suggestions?
We did attach ear phones and encountered the same volume problem, any other suggestions besides kicking it?
