 I try to power up and the computer lights up, all fans spin, looks normal the suddenly turns itself off after about 5 sec. I disconnected one of the dvd drives to see if maybe i just wasn't getting enough juice but still nothing. What should I do? Also the MOBO only has one IDE connector and I need to install 2 optical drives and a recording drive that has a bunch of inputs on it. They all require IDE connection. Can I somehow connect all 3 devices to the same port?

what are the specs and what PSU are you using?

Vipers pretty good on the hardware stuff so I'm sure he will have a way round this but you can only have 2 devices on a single IDE channel, one as a Master and one as a SLave. I'm not sure but perhaps theres a pci adapter that will allow more IDE devices

you can get a PCI card that will add more IDE ports to the motherboard...

First...when you build a new systems with a new motherboard and new processor...the first thing you need to do is take the CMOS battery out(with the system unplugged) and leave it out for about five minutes. Then reinsert the battery...this is the foolproof way to reset the CMOS, which needs to be done for a new build.

Second...Are you using a new hard drive or one that is from another system that already has windows installed on it?? If it is one that already has windows installed on it...you will have to do a new clean install or a repair install of windows. If you have stuff on the drive that you fear losing then either...

    A) put the drive back in the system it came out of, and retirieve the files you do nnot want to lose, then put it back in the new system, and reboot it to the windows install disc and format the disc and do a clean/new install of windows.

    B) With the drive in the new system, reboot to the windows install disc, and do a repair install. This will delete the Windows files off the hard drive and then replace with the new files from the windows install disc, all the while not touching anything else on the drive and therefore your applications and files will still be there once you get windows going.

But, to make a long story short...when you do a new build...you have to reset the CMOS, and do a repair or new install of windows, in oder for it to sync up properly with the new build!!

I didn't know you have to replace and reinsert the CMOS battery on new MOBOs. Thanks I will try that. Also the specs requested.

    Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe MOBO
    AMD 4200+
    3600GT Geforce
Samsung HD 250gb (new not from old comp)
PSU is centerion 360W I think. The comp isnt right in front of me right now. I will re-post when I find out.

like they already said you can only have 2 IDE drives per port but a cable (probably a flat one) should have come with your mobo to allow you to connect a master and slave to that one IDE slot.

Also, check the amps on the 12v rail on that PSU (should be on the PSU sticker on the side) it may be too low to power that setup. PSUs that come with cases tend to be on the weak side.

If rogvalcox's tips dont work then let me know about your other stuff. BTW, what the heck is a 3600gt lol 6600gt? 6800gt? get back to me

Don't forget to make sure your mobo's on all its standoffs >.>

Also...have you applied the thermal paste, between the heatsink and the CPU, in the appropriate manner?? If not...it could be overheating super fast which trigger the motherboard to restart, as a safety feature!!

Here is a link on applying thermal paste...

i doubt it would overheat THAT fast. my overclocked p4 (3.0 to 3.6) didnt crash when i got an air bubble in my water cooling system. Luckily i caught it before anything happened  You can check it anyways, it will save you trouble in the long run

what exactly should I check for when checking the amps on the 12v rail. what should this amperage cover?

The CPU fan/heat sink im using came with the CPU and I believe (hope) it has a thermal pad on the bottom. Is this setup good enough?

just tell me how many amps it has on the 12v rail

also, if its a thermal pad then it wouldnt hurt to take it off to check

Most likely Your problem is the PSU or possibly a Short.

Replace the PSU! Aspires Suck A##
It wont matter how many amps you have, Aspire PSU's are Pure Garbage!

    I'll bet it's only a 20 pin main
Your MOBO requires Native 24 pin main PSU
The mobo may require other power connections like 4 pin 12v & maybe molex??

    Here's a few PSU's I'd reccommend:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103929

I'd also check for a short, could be one or more Standoff's in the wrong position.
Check for Improperly mounted CPU, damaged or dead CPU, missing or bent pin on CPU.

If you dont know for sure if you have Thermal Pad or Paste, you need to check, unless you want to buy another CPU, with out it, you will Kill it!
