I am thinking about upgrading my processor from a Celeron 2.4 Ghz (Northwood) to a Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz (Prescott). What are the chances that my current heat sink(it is the one that came with the Celeron) will be able to cool the Pentium 4. I can provide more info if needed.

    Hi CaptM

To be honest, as I have a Prescott CPu in spare PC and it is a hot CPU so my advice would be to go with a better HSF, their are alot of 3rd party ones that cool much better than the standard Intel Coolers (I never use the boxed cooler), check out thermaltake, Zalman, Coolermaster, Scythe as soem examples.

Have to agree the Prescott's run hot ad need to be monitored. When you say upgrading is this a new CPU or a 2nd hand one? All new CPU's will come with a HS as part of the package but for a Prescott after market coolers are a definite consideration.
