Hebrew IE Favorites Restored But Not Displayed

Hi,

I backed up favorites in IE before re-installing the OS (Win XP). After restoring the favorites, the favorites that were in Hebrew language font are not displayed.

What happened? Could it be an issue with different versions of IE? Would I be able to see these displayed in Hebrew again or is something wrong?

Try this:

Look in Documents and Settings - User name - favorites folder and see if the missing favorites are listed there.

If they are open regedit and navigate to the following key:

[HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]

Be sure the Favorites path is %USERPROFILE%\Favorites

This should be a REG_EXPAND_SZ value, not REG_SZ

 

I'll check that, but the favorites entries themselves are there, the display is just not Hebrew. They are dashes.

I added the Hebrew language in Regional Settings, but there is no translation of the Favorites.

Are they lost?

 

I checked, and everything checks out. In regedit.

Under user in doc & settings, again the favorites are listed but the text is dashes or underscores.

The version of IE is 6.0 whereas the previous version from where the favorites were exported was probably 7. Are there compatibility issues?

 

So the favorites show in the favorites folder in the Hebrew language but they do not show when clicking on favorites in the IE browser? It would be interesting to see if another browser reflects the favorites correctly.

I use Opera 9.27 and I can import IE favorites. Not saying you have to use the Opera browser just try an experiment. If IE favorites do show correctly in Opera, you can export the Opera bookmarks in HTML format and import the HTML format into IE.

Kind of unconventional, but what the heck? You can always uninstall Opera if it doesn't work.

 

Actually, the favorites are in the favorites folder being displayed just as they are when clicking the favorites on the browser. Sort of like this:
