Hi I'm new here but am going MAD wth this problem!

    I really need some help!

when using my system i hav regular blue screen crashes, mostly when using games, and audio apps( music production stuff ie cubase and fruityloops) and some times just wilst in windows!

mostly the are the infamouse IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN ...... stuff!!!

but also i get page fault in non paged area,

and several drivers being mentiond ( different for each crash)

his was very iritating, so to solve the problem I have stripped m system down( to get rid of conflicts) re seated everything and re iinstalled the os,

so no change!!! s still get the crashes,

no i am trying to re install the os again BUT i now get crases WILST i am installing!!!

do you think this could be a bios setup issue?

    my specs are

    MB: Abit NF7 (v 2.0) with BIOS 27 (latest)

GRAPH: Nvidia GFORCE FX5200 128 mb ddr 8xAGP
(i have also tried a GFROCE FX5200 256 mb ddr PCI, but no joy!)

MEM: 512 MB DDR 333 crucial RAM

    PSU: Magna ATX 500W

    HDD: 40GB Maxtor 7200 rpm
(was using a 120gb 7200 rpm maxtror as slve but have removed this to simplifie things, I have also tried with Just the 120gb drive!)

other drives: 3.5" FDD, DVD+/- r/wr drive (generic)

    any ideas

    help!

please, i have tried playing round wiht bios setting to remove conflicts but no sucess, maybe this is the root of the problem!?!

    many thnks in advance

    joe

JOE restore factory or default settings is your first step(this may have to be done for each section in the bios )

Hi :) What operating system is this and how old are your harddrives,do you get errors in the same places with either drive intalled, first remove any add in cards, leave only your video card in,use only one cdrom drive to install your os

    JoeBot Private E-2

my hdds are gettin on but i have checked em both, the error happens at different points through the install every time i try and install!

i'm trying to install win xp sp2

i'm only using a very cut down system to try n resolve this problem

have you any different hd cables you can try, make sure your master slave jumper is set to master,at what point does the error happen can you describe it in detail, does the load bar lock up and just not move, restart, bsod how far does it get,are you using a full slow format between each attempt,do you have a surge protector:)

edit, set up the cd drive and the hd on different ide channels, with the hd in ide 0

have you tested your ram. The chips are possibly bad.

Joe, I hate to tell you this but it's the video card.
I know this because I have the same card. If you google
the FX-5200 with "blue screens" you will find tons of sites
    that mention this problem.
I sent my first card back to Chaintech because of this
problem. The replacement had a fan on it which the original
one didn't and it got slightly less blue screens but still too many!
And also, when I had service pack 2 running
I got a lot more of the blue screens.
In order to play videos without all the crashes I had to go to
the windows media player "classic". It is bundled with
Real Player alternative as well as Quicktime alternative.
Now I only get a blue screen once in a while.
(probably only 5% of the amount I used to get)

I tried at least a half dozen different nvidia drivers over the course
of the past year and none of them helped. So I can only say that the
problem seems to be with the card.

    ok,

so i have re seated everthing

    checked all my cabels

and finaly managed to install windows!

but still gettin blu screen crashes,

a bit more stable but not much better

BTW i used to have the same problem with my gforce 4 mx440,

so what the fudge is causing the blue screens?

any one? is there a way of findin out

    the official line with IRQ_NOT_LESS.........etc.

seams to be (from MSN) yea we know but we dont know!

    idgets!

Welcome to MG's Pluto.:) We welcome new people to help out here but ask that you please read the 'complete' post. In the first post the JoeBot said "no i am trying to re install the os again BUT i now get crases WILST i am installing!!!" so Rikky's response was correct when he said "Its a little hard to install drivers when you cant install windows."

We pride ourselves on giving complete, accurate help in our tech forums and part of that is admitting when we goofed..we are all human after all right?:D If a member here makes a statement such as Rikky did it's best to go back through the thread to see if you missed a key point.:)

    MX440 chipset and FX5200 = similar chipset?

Quality ram, quality psu, quality hd, quality mobo.
    You do the math.

I hope somebody finds a good fix for this, but my suspicions lie
firmly with the video card. FX-5200. Bah!

    vvc voltage (2.5v)=2.69v
    i/o voltage (3.3v) = 3.38v
    +5v= 5.08v
    +12v = 11.80 v
    -5v=-4.95
    -12v=-11.71
    3.3v Dual voltage = 3.57v

so my 12v is a bit low,

do you think this cud be it?

also check your monitor cable which is going in the video card for any possible shorts, i was having all kinds of probs with my card because of this, just touch it and see if you shock yourself :) , i had numerous reformats and pc dismantling and it boiled down to something stupid like that, also try removing battery and clearing cmos from mobo jumper than putting battery back on to eliminate bios fudge ups.

Good tips Bluenick. It's all too easy to forget the basic
    troubleshooting procedures sometimes.

(I still say it's the crappy video card though.... )

yea i'm begign to think its either the pus and or video card,

am gonna try my girlfreinds vid card tonite

any one got suggestions for another vid card?

the mainthing i need is a regual AND dvi out ( i need two monitors for music production)

and i figured cus i have nvidia board stay with nvidia but maybe im wrong

*IF* it's the video card, I would replace it with an ATI only because
you can get an ATI card that is actually made by ATI.
Unless you plan on spending money for an upper level card, anyways.
I think part of the lower budget problems with the Nvidia cards
is that any vendor can purchase the chipsets from Nvidia and sell
    cards to their own spec.

Very nice card, for sure. But I would spend the extra bucks to
get the actual ATI version vs. the Saphire if you can find it.

all those cards are from different generations, therefor they have different architecture
