Hello and question

Hi.
Im not sure in wich forum i should post this so here it goes!
Im looking for a freeware program to rip dvd's into avi files, to backup my collection.
As im not a lot computer-savvy (id say A LOT), im looking for a simple program, just to make avis directly, to a format that most reproducers can read, not only in the pc (i already have vlc but id want to view it in my tv, not only in the pc).
Thank you all in advance, and please tell me if i should post this in another forum.
