I am running Windows XP, SP3.

I have just finished cleaning my PC from Malware, via this web site. I have recently run...SAS, MalwareBytes, Combo cleaner (now removed) and MGTools (now removed)

So I seem to be free of the junk...(tho slower)

Tho now, I have a couple of problems.

None of my USB ports (I have 5, two on CPU and three on monitor) are recognized by windows. I looked in the device manager and do not see any "?" or "!" I tried to upload a pic from my camera, which is how I learned of this.
So then I tried to reinstall my camera program, and nothing happens when I put a CD into the "D" drive.
I was able to bring up windows media player, and direct the D drive to "play" through that program....but it won't do anything on it's own.

Seems like a I have "fixed too much"....

    Thanks in advance

Auto play is turned off for security.
The safest way to do anything is to put the CD in the drive, open windows explorer and then clik on the drive. You should see all the files and folders on the CD. if it is to setup camera software, you might see something like setup.exe; that's what you would click or double-click to run the setup.

    Thanks, plodr!
It's a change to my settings I wasn't aware of...since the Malware clean out!
do you have any idea why my USB ports just stopped working....?

Is there a fix that you or anyone else knows of?

I was able to reinstall my camera, but that was not the problem. I guess I didn't need to.

I don't know why the USB ports stopped working.

This might sound strange but I've seen this as a solution to get them working again...
disconnect the computer from the mains/electric outlet for about 1/2 hour.
It has worked for some people. This will probably only work for the ones in the computer and not the ones on the monitor.

    Thanks for your response
    I disconnected for about one hour...and it didn't work....:cry

darn...I can't use my camera which is a big part of my PC...

I appreciate all that you do!

I never attach my cameras to the computer. I take out the sd card, put it into an external sd to USB card reader. The computer sees the card and all the pictures. I copy the pictures from the card to the computer then work on them after burning them to a CD for safe keeping.

You might have to use this workaround if the computer doesn't see your camera.
Do other USB devices work? If you don't have any, see if a friend has a USB stick that you can plug in to see if it is recognized.

Let's see if the computer recognizes that the USB ports actaully exist:

Right-click on "my computer" and choose "manage". Then on the left hand side of the window that opens click on "device manager". Then look through the list for an item called "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". Are there any items listed under there? (to expand it, click on the + to the left of the name). Please post a screen shot of the Device Manager with this area expanded.
