    Hi to all !
Am glad I finally joined this site. I have visited this site often.
I need some info and am sure I'll get it here. I'm not a gamer, nor am I a computer whiz. I am looking for info on what processor is good for an image editor. I currently have a AMD 3400+ 64 -- processor speed 2.4. I', thinking of getting a different pc and am quite confused on what to get ? Any suggestions ? thanks--tom

    IOWA.. hellooooo

Info is what we have, but depends on your issue as to the level of answer.

What graphic software are you using at present as Photoshop is for those that us it is normally over the top as they do not know how to use it properly. Its a complicated app and one I have never mastered, even though I have been through 2 courses on it, with Kodak and Fuji imaging companies.

For imaging I would go for a good CPU as you have and at least 4GB ram then a good GPU and what Ram and GPU (graphc card) do you have?

Then what software do you wish to use?

I could post my PC specs for a really good graphic design enabled PC but it would be in the $2000 mark area.

Image editing can be done really simply and Microsoft Photo Gallery could be the app for you, worth a try as its free....

But do let us know what you wish as we can help :)

    Thanks David GP,
I was very vague with my question, sorry. I'm thinking of getting a new pc and not sure whether AMD or INtel processor is way to go.?

My image editor is Corel Paint Shop Pro X3. It has more features than I'll ever use. My present pc seems slow with this software and I thought I'd make sure that whatever new pc I get would handle the X3 easily.

I will try the Microsoft Photo gallery. Who knows, it might work perfectly for me.

I've been checking prices on refurbished computers. Look as a way to save some money.

    thank you-----tom

    I'm from Iowa too :D

For imagine editing it would depend on what software you are using, I personally just use paint, Photoshop is good too.
Apple computers have a lot of programs for editing, If you would want you could buy a used mac book air, I would stay away from apple products as they can be pricey.
Personally i have an AMD fx 8120 3.1GHz, It handles anything with ease, gaming, video editing, server hosting etc..

Whats your price range, I'd be glad to help you out.

My main image editor is Corel paint Shop Pro X3. I don't use it a lot , but when I do I like it to work smoothly.

I'm thinking of buying a refurbished pc, seems as a guy can save a few bucks.

Other than image editing I do a little video editing. When I do, its very little.Other than my wife playing casino games there will be no games played on the pc.

I have found this refurbished pc for around $300, is this a good deal and do you think it will do for my work?---HP Pavilion p6823w Desktop PC 3.5GHz AMD Phenom II X 2 1TB HDD 4GB DDR3 Win 7 HP.

I know for this small $ I can't get q powerful pc, but really don't need one.

Most of my photography still film, but on occasions I shoot digital out of need.

I did used to own an AMD phenom II x4
It really did everything i need well, You should learn how to build a computer, Its much much much cheaper :p (Assuming desktops)

As for the onboard graphics the phenom should play any games your wife throws at it

    Hi

Your Pc specs on that refurb are ok, and you should with Win 7 as the OS be able to use Photo Gallery ok, also it maybe worth looking at XMView which is free and can do some image editing.

I would also look at GIMP as its a sort of Photoshop clone but free and has a hell of a lot of tutorials on the internet to allow any user to manipulate images.

I used to use Still film when I worked for Kodak and did my own artwork, but these days where photo film is still king I do use 14mp+ cameras, that give near film quality, with a bit of tinkering at times :)

Will check out Gimp. Did a fast read through of it, and it has a lot of features.

Computers can do some pretty amazing things.

Again-thanks to all who took time to help me !! tom
