Help! Adobe won't launch

Pls help, I'm at my wits end. I have installed, uninstalled (using the Add or Remove Program thingy on the Control Panel), and installed Adobe over & over again but it's always the same problem, it won't launch on my desktop. I haven't been able to read a pdf since Adobe 6 when this started. If I accidentally click on a pdf while on the internet my browser freezes, I have to close it down and start over.

The thing that I find interesting/aggravating is that whatever version I install, while it won't run on my desktop, it always runs on my daughter's desktop.
If I click on the Adobe icon on my desktop the minute timer thing shows for a second but then it disappears. If I click on the icon on my daughter's desktop it launches the program just fine.

What's going on?

 

A quick fix would be using Foxit Reader for pdfs. Much faster loading than Adobe.

I haven't used adobe for quite a while, maybe someone else can help with troubleshooting it.
