Help after Microsoft Off XP updates

    I have installed the latest updates on my office XP Pro, which included service pack 2. Could not open my databases so installed service pack 3, still same problem. Dialogue box comes up saying "Windows Installer Preparing to Install: "Please wait while windows configures Microsoft Offic XP", however after the configurations, it just keeps saying the same thing each time I try to open the database.
