Re: copy video from computer and convert to cd-or-dvd

    plodr,
Thanks for the heads up on Video Soft "Free". I have often found myself at wits end with guys who do this kind of thing. Mostly because I'm not so good with the search and destroy missions they require. And, some more help would be gratefully appreciated.

I have stage 4 Lung Cancer and I'd like to leave some video messages to my two year old granddaughter. I've been digging around for the best way to go about doing this: buy a video camera, or get some software? Or, More?

I'm using an Asus K55A notebook and it seems to me that the machine comes equipped with enough guts to do the job: Windows 7 Home Premium with a Samsung SSD 840 ATA DRIVE@120G; Version=6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601; System Type=x64-based PC; Installed Physical Memory (RAM)=8.00 GB; Processor=Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz, 2501 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s).

But then again, I appear to know just enough about computers to consistently wind up, as my daddy used to say, "Getting your *** kicked in any bar in America."

So I don't really have to do much financial planning ahead because I'm working with a pretty short time horizon. That said, I'm a cheap old man who dislikes spending extra for all the bells and whistles that I'll never figure out how to use.

    Suggestions? Directions? Advice?...
    Thanks for it all...

Sorry to hear about your stage 4 lung cancer. I went through that with my dad but his was in the lining of his chest wall.

I've never owned a video camera. My digital cameras can take video but I've never done this with the three cameras I've owned.

All I basically do is take videos I find and convert them to something else. I have never even tackled editing video.

I went to what I thought might be the software you are referring to, http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/ . I've never used any of their programs. So maybe you followed a link when someone asked for a free program and I offered choices for them to look at.
Sorry I could not offer more help.

I just found the thread, it was not me who recommended this software, it was PSCO2007.
I mentioned Freemake and Free video joiner.

  5. I personally use ConvertXtoDVD but it is Shareware, there might be a free trial out there but you'd have to do the research. Another program you can use to download videos off of YouTube is the, YouTube Downloader HD, it's a great program I use it almost daily for videos as well as music but you'll need a Media Coder for the music.

    Guys,
Thank you all very much for your quick responses. I had run across plodr & foogoo responses while searching the forum and then dug around from there. I'm an old-guy, newbie and have yet to be able to work the forum so that I can respond adeptly.

First and foremost a big thanks. Second, I've dug up the Webcam Video Diary at Donation Coder where I've had a membership for longer than I've been here in Geekland. It looks to have promise and I'm hopeful it will serve my purposes without complications.

In the meanwhile, I have a few weeks of complicated treatments ahead and will be out of action for a time. I hope to be able to report back on how things work out by the middle of November. So, get well, be well and stay well as the case may be...
