help asap, unknown hard error d0000144

hi, ive just this min shut down my pc and it wont boot up again.. first time it booted the screen stayed black before the xp loading bar came on, so then decided to do a recover C:\ that worked, rebooted, loged on then a message appeared "unknown hard error d0000144" and rebooted, everytime i get to logon i get it, worse of all i have about 100mb of work on the c:\ (due tomorrow and fri..)

HELP ASAP..

OK, it looks like might have something to do with the hard disk controller. Is this machine a Dell?

As many details as poss please spec, OS etc
