Hi Gang: I have this problem that my friends and other forums have not answered, so I am trying here. Every time I turn on my computer and my desktop comes up so does an irritating message. It is irritating because I do not have MS Photo Gallery and it eats up time doing its thing. Here are the messages.

Windows Installer->Preparing to install-> Wait while windows configures Photo Gallery-> The feature you are trying to use is ona CD-ROM or other removeable disk that is not available (Note: I know its not, maybe someone does but I do not have nor ever did have the disk!)->Insert Photo Gallery disk and press OK. (Note: I press close, that gives me a box that I close, then two more "Wait" boxes that I also close and that gets rid of it.)

What can I do to get rid of this thing. I have tried going to MS Installer but it is not clear where this program is and I do not want to screw up other programs. As I am not a "geek" , if you know what to do, please give me a detailed answer that I can follow. Thanking you all in advance, best, Mental Wizard

You need to download and run the MS Installer Clean Up tool. When you run it, you'll be presented with a listed of installed programs. Look thru the list and select the Photo Gallery program... that should do it....

Hi DLB: Strange situation. I downloaded the tool but when I clicked it in my Program Downloads to execute, instead of it running, I immedialtely got a Program Deletion setup for the tool. Of course it deleted the tool. I have tried several times with the same result, even going so far as to download the program again to start over. Same result. Do you know what could be going on? Thanks again for your help. Mental Wizard

I've got the same problem with some (unknown) incomplete install. I get the same number of messages, keep cancelling, keeps telling me to load a CD, error messages, etc.

I think I ran the MSUninstall cleanup program a long time ago. It did not make any difference to my startup. I have just downloaded, and run, the MSUninstaller again. I will see if it makes any difference next time I boot up. :cry Bazza

Well I'm not the only one. The key is after to download to a save slot, when you try to run it, does it immediately take you to an "Uninstall Wizard program? Best, Mental Wizard :confused

Running the MS program did not make the slightest difference in my case. The incomplete installer is driving me nuts, too. Bazza

It's gotten to be more of a putt than a drive. Maybe another Geek can give us a helping hand. Best, Mental Wizard

Photo Gallery is software that comes with an HP all-in-one printer.
Put in your HP printer CD and see if it finds what it wants.

As I have a HP all-in-one printer / scanner, I'll give that a try tomorrow. Anything to stop the !@#$%^ thing from continually popping up. Bazza

Thanks a million Plodr. It worked and drove me sane. I then deleted the program, since I do not use it. Closed out again and booted and the message did not come back. Hope it works for you bigbazza. Again thanks. Best, Mental Wizard :D

plodr, thanks a million. :major :cool :D ;) It turns out that the incomplete (?) install had something to do with my HP all-in-one Printer, Scanner model PSC 1410.

I don't remember anything happening recently. I don't remember attempting to re-install the drivers / setup, etc., although I must have.

I finally got fed up with the error messages cropping up at bootup and at various times during the day. Today I pulled out all the setup CD's I could lay my hands on and fed them one-by-one into the "D" drive when the error message appeared.

I went through 8 x CD's until the last one (the HP setup CD) worked. It was the last one I found. Anyhow CD light blinked on and off for a few seconds. Nothing else appently happened and the incomplete install was gone. I rebooted my laptop a few times to make sure and it appears to be gone, problem solved I hope.

Thanks again, plodr. It is a pity that HP are not a bit more realistic in naming the volume on their CD's. A volume label of "1" is not much of a clue as to the offending product. Bazza

15 hours later, another day further on, and another logon.

No unfinished install. :cool :cool :cool

But I'm keeping the HP CD handy just in case for a few more days.
