im super stumped on which of these two monitors i should buy..
Asus VG248QE vs. Benq RL2455HM (apparently the official MLG monitor?)

the only difference i can see between them is that the Asus is more expensive by $90, read that the picture or colors are a little better then the Benq monitor, and the main concern i noticed is that the Asus monitor is 144hz and the Benq is only 60hz.. both have 1ms response time though..

i have no idea if the 60hz refresh rate would bother me or not.. i still use a Samsung CRT monitor that i can force the hz to 120hz at certain resolutions.. main resolution i use on FPS games is 1280 x 1024 and that runs at 85hz which is tolerable to use, haha.. at 60hz i cant stand to play the game because i notice my quick movements with the mouse arent keeping up on the screen and it just doesnt feel right at all.. im used to 85 to 120hz so thats what im so weird about.. ill pay the extra $90 if my pickyness will notice the Benq monitor not responding as fast as even my old CRT monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 997MB). im looking to buy one of these monitors today for sure!

    help is greatly appreciated!! thanks!

ASUS models usually have a three year warranty and - if it does fail under warranty - they pay shipping both ways. I'm pretty sure Benq only has one year. The ASUS, as you stated, also has a better color display.

If your budget allows it, get the ASUS.

thanks.. ive been posting on another computer forum and they seem to all favor the asus monitor also.. main thing im hooked on with the Benq is the "offical monitor of MLG" soo idk.. i guess im going with asus though

I too am thinking of buying a new monitor.
With LCD technology, I am lead to believe, (hardware) response times of better than ~5ms are not possible. How a response time of 1ms is achieved is in software, and interpretation of response times.
Also the brand is likely to be important - well known (for being good) brands are likely to be more rigourous in their defining, testing and applying of standards and parameters, such as response time.
However it has been advised in some places on the internet is to go and see a range of monitors in operation, and see which one looks best/you like best, trying to take into account that in a display room each monitor will be set up in a configuration to show it at its best.

Good luck ! I am confident that whichever of the monitors you choose you will be satisfied as long as they function

Whichever monitor you choose you'll notice the difference in responsiveness for the worse in FPS from your crt monitor there's just no way around it, it is also exacerbated if you hate screen tearing and enjoy Vsync like I do.

The Asus wins in that department hands down though. To make use of the full speed you'll need a 3D capable video card with dual DVI outputs and two DVI cables, not sure if they come with the monitor.

@Dumb quesion the response time is grey to grey, how long it takes for a single pixel to turn from grey to a different shade of grey.
