I just finished eliminating any malware with help from the malware forum, but now I cannot downloasd ANY files of any length--they all stall whether I click to SAVE or to RUN. Windows 7 i5 processor, 8Gb of RAM, us IE 9. Thanks for the help.
I have already reset IE to default settings with no help, and have emptied history, temporary internet files, and cookies, but this has not helped at all. IE itself works fast enough to load pages, but just cannot download any files . thanks again.

I don't use IE so I may not be of any help.

Open IE9 and click on the "gear" icon on the right. Then View Downloads--Do you see a list of downloads and is there any information on whether they completed or not?

Then click on options--which folder do you downloads go into--Does it just say Downloads?

because I had recently cleared the download window, it had only one that I just tried after a reboot to see if anything had changed. The download had stalled at 15 % download since about 1 hour ago when I stated it.
The defalut download location is "Downloads" in the options window. I also earlier today tried to download firefox to see if it would download , but that download stalled after about 12% or so as well.

    thanks

Try again, if you tell it to Save instead of run does it still complete?

I think it will which I believe tells us that Windows can write to both TEMP and Downloads so that rules that out.

Have you tried just turning off/unplugging your router/modem for a minute two and then back on; to refresh your connection?

Your LAN drivers could possibly be corrupt. This would be part of the motherboard chipset drivers. Reinstalling those could potentially solve your issue.

It also completed easily after clicking SAVE. Concerning router/modem issues, I'm in an office setting and no one else is haveing issues downloading tht I know of. I'm not sure where the modem is, but I can unplug the networkcable from my computer and try again, which I will do.

I'm really not sure what is going on. I don't see a definitive problem/cause. Firefox download is only 12mb and you stalled at 12%. That SIW download is 2mb and you completed.

Disconnecting the LAN cable isn't the same thing but if no one else is having problems there is no need to power the router/modem down. Have you rebooted the computer between yesterday when you first noticed the problem and today?

Try FF download again, just to rule out a temporary glitch in your download ability.

JUST FYI, so that no one keeps banging their heads against the wall trying to help me, please note that because my pc had just had a malware issue at the same time this occurred, I assumed this IE problem was on my pc, but I've just checked and the entire office is uable to download files, but able to download web pages.

So I'll put this on hold until we get IT help at the office. Thanks for your input!

Thanks for letting us know that others are having problems and it may not be an individual setting.

    Good Luck! :)

It has turned out to be a problem with a new cisco router in the office. Some kind of glitch that took our IT guy 4 hours on the phone with cisco to remedy. Thanks for time and effort anyway.
