Help! Can't get on internet even though I'm connected

Details: Compaq Presico Computer (model number?)
-Running Widows XP Home Edition 2000
-Service Pack three

Having a problem getting on my internet even though I am connected to the internet. It keeps coming up "page cannot be displayed". It started when I unhooked the cables on my high speed box... once everything was hooked backed properly I couldn't get back on the internet. All the proper lights were on and my pc says I was connected.

I called Aliant and finally got it working through typing something in the command prompt and essentially rebooting the system. Now it is doing the same thing again once I unhooked the old high speed box and attached the new wireless router box to my computer. Assuming it is the same problem as last time it is not an issue with my IP Adress or anything.

Can anyone help me get tihs working again. Not really a computur person so be patient with me LOL!

 

Open CMD again then
type ipconfig /release
type ipconfig /renew

See if that helps !

 

Tried that and it didn't help at all. Thanks for the suggestion though. Any other ideas? The computer model number for the Presico is 4420CA.

 

Try flushing your dns open CMD
type ipconfig /flushdns
