I have a Thinkpad R51 2883ELU with a TEAC DW-225 CD-RW/DVD Drive. The drive will not read ANY CDs but it reads and Runs DVDs fine.

Firmware updated, bios updated, windows updated. Current firmware version is 2.6B.
    RUnning windows XP SP3.

I have tried several CDs and none of them work on this machine, but they work fine on other computers.

I tired the lenovo troubleshooting steps on their website and the problem still persists.

    Please help!

A combo drive uses two different lasers, one for CDs and a different one for DVDs. It is possible for one of the lasers to quit working. Your drive sounds like the CD laser has died.
Two options: install or use an external CD drive or install another combo drive.

Thanks for making me face reality, I kept looking for a fix tirelessly but I'll just have to part ways with the drive.
Now when buying an internal combo drive are there compatibility issues with the type of system you use?
And if there are, how can I find what drives would be compatible with my thinkpad R51?

    Thanks :)
