Ok Hi , ive had this problem for like 2-3 Months .. ive done Every Diag Tool on Every Part of my Computer Don't know if it Software or Hardware .. but im leaning towards the hardware side

    Lets Start off

    i run a Pentium 4 3.2ghz HT CPU on a Gigabyte Board . 1gb DDR Ram , ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb AGP 8x , DVD/RW , 160gb WD Hardrive

ok Starting about 2 months ago i started to get Lag Spikes in Games and also Burning CD's or even Scanning for Virus Etc... what will happen , Say im Playing World Of Warcraft for Exsample .. Every 2 -3 Mins i will Hear a Hissing Noise come from My Computer. . Which ive tryed to locate where it is coming from but i can not .. ( not Fans Check them ) and my FPS will drop to like 2-5 Instead of the Normal 35-60 After about 10 Seconds it all goes back to Normal and it works 100% Pefect for another 2-3 Mins then it does it again and so on ... Also Why Scaning for Viruses it does it .. it will Scan with Mcaffe , then i Hear the Hissing Noise .. the Virus Scan will Slow down (like 2 Files a Second Instead of like 25-50 , then 10 seconds later it will be back to Normal Again

Im just about had enough i can't take it anymore i don't want a 3.2ghz DVD Player (LoL) i can browser the internet fine .. and downloads files etc.. it only happens when i put stress on the computer or operating System etc..

If anyone could help it would be great .. i dont know if it a Hardware or a Software issue

is it more of a hissing sound like when an optical drive spins down or is it kind of like a buzzing electical sound?

splitt3r You are now the victim of a drive by title change

could be that your CPU is overheating and throttling down, the hissing could be a fan speeding up, try using everest home edition or speed fan to monitor your temps.

Yes I would think your CPU is overheating and the thermal throttiling is kicking in to apply extra cooling on the CPU and slowing processing to allow the cool down.

For listening have you tried to put a plastic kitchen funnel to your ear (serious, narrow end in your ear gently), remove side cover, run your virus scan and try to isolate the location of the sound then. Start near the CPU.

EVEREST is great and will allow system monitoring while under load, free and avail at this site!
