Im using a 939 K8N Gigabyte motherboard. I bought 2 sticks of ram and put them in, but after I did so, the computer wouldn't boot and instead continually beeped with no video being output ot the monitor. so I unplugged and replugged the video card and tried it. it got to the "the last attempt to restart the system from its previous location failed. Attempt to restart again?"
I tried to push enter, but it did not register, despite the keyboard being lit up. When I turned off the computer, the keyboard and mouse continued to recieve power, as they were lit up. I tried removing the new ram, same problem. What should I do?

Firstly welcome to the forums here at MG. :)

Now as to your problem. First unplug the PC from the wall. This allows any capacitive charge to decay. Second take out the new RAM and the video card.

Plug the PC back in and attempt to boot. It should give some warning POST beeps. This is a good sign.

Unplug the PC again and then re-insert the video card, making sure it is properly seated. Plug the PC back in and attempt to boot. You should still get a number of beeps as the POST complains about lack of RAM.

Finally unplug again. Put in the old RAM if you had some. Does it boot now? If the new RAM is all you have put that in. Does it boot? If it boots with old RAM try the new RAM again. No good? The new RAM is the wrong sort.

If it doesn't boot make a note of the POST beep sequence ie one long two short that sort of thing. Also let us know the BIOS you have if you know it.

    gimpster123 Bring out the Gimp.

    is it on mute?

You could try reinstalling the soundcard driver.

I just tried updating, both sound cards showed up in device manager, nothing had a yellow question mark, and yet, it still doesn't work. What else could it be?

I agree with the gimpster - try a re-install of the sound card drivers. Delte the existing drivers from the device manger first - then reboot and then reload the drivers.

Although in most cases two sounds cards can work together you might consider either disabling the on board sound or pulling out the creative card and get either one or the other working the see about getting the other one to work if you indeed need two sound cards............
