    Hey all,

Just got a new PC a few weeks ago, was running fine until a few days ago, I started getting "System Has Recovered from a Serious Error" messages on startup. I have Nod32 antivirus running and everything seems to be working fine. I've attatched a HijackThis Log if it's any help.

    I'm on Windows XP Home,
    Intel Pentium Duel core..
    2GB RAM
    NVIDIA graphics card

Everything is really new, I'm suspecting I downloaded or installed something that conflicted somewhere and I don't know what to do. Would a system restore help some? I have several available.

    Thanks a lot,

    -Chris

You could try a system restore; it can't really hurt anything. Also, check your system temperatures, something may be overheating. SpeedFan, PC Wizard, HMonitor, and others have temp watching available. Also, check your drivers. You may have installed an updated driver that's not 100% compatible or you may need to update an out of date driver....

1.Go to:Right click on My computer,Advanced,Startup and Recovery, hit settings, and uncheck Automatically restart. This is something I did with all of my comps, cos I don't want to restart on it's own.
2.C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools\Event Viewer, and see if you can find something that cause this errors.

    just a quick look

Do you really need Googletalk and Skype to start at boot?

You have Nod32 and Windows Defender - why?

I suggest you take a long hard look at the programs you have installed and running together, as I think you have some conflicts.

So, does your comp work now? Or does it restart too often or not start up?
If it was a single instance, maybe you'd shutted down not correctly before the error occured?

Okay so I turned off the auto restart...and instead, the next time the computer crashed - a blue screen came up....the error said 0x00000008E and something about "system32:lzx32.sys".

After a bit of googling I found something called Rustock.b-fix...ran this tool and it generated the following logfile:

    Code:
Rootkit driver PE386 is found. Starting the unload-procedure....

    Attempting to remove ADS...

Any idea on how I can clean this up? Or has it already been taken care of? I'm presuming this was the reason my computer was restarting randomly (blue screening) and giving a serious error message on startup.

Is there any point posting help in this thread, you haven't replied to several posters.

To test if you genuinely have the Rustock.b rootkit look in the registry for

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\pe386

If you find this entry post again in the Malware forum.

+1 for this. I had this problem with my PC a couple years ago, took forever to figure what the heck was causing it to reboot constantly.
