Just switched from DSL to cable modem (got the digital phone, cable and internet in one). I previously had a wireless adapter on my upstairs desktop, which worked fine with the DSL. Well, now I supposedly needed to go out and buy a wireless router, which I did. My adapter upstairs was a Linksys, so I bought a Linksys Wireless G Broadband router model WRT54G V8. After setting it up using the disc provided, it prompted me to set up a secure connection, which I did.

Now upstairs, I cannot get a connection. I called Linksys, but apparently they said because my adapter is so "old", I have no warranty for it. They said it needs to be configured because it is a "B" and the router is a "G". I can see my router from my connection options, but it does not let me connect, nor does it even ask me for a key. It is a Linksys WUSB11 ver. 2.6 adapter that plugs into my USB port.

So can anyone help me configure this? I'm pretty good with walk-throughs, not with technical talk unless you put it in Layman's terms. LOL

Or, any other suggestions would be welcomed. I work from home and really, really, really need to get this computer up and running short from bringing it the whole way downstairs and setting it all up down here with the other one, which I really don't have room for. I also would like to avoid paying for a new wireless adapter if I can.

    Thanks!!

There are hundreds of models of End-Users Wireless devices.

Therefore, by asking to guide step-by-step you are relying on a hope that someone has the exact combination that you have, that he happened to look at this forum and to see your post, and he has the long time that is needed in order to do so.

I do not have the same hardware so the only thing that I can offer you is few pages with general tutorial the in combination with your hardware manual might help you.
