Help contacting author of "Daisy" software over problem

Hi.

I was unsure where to talk about this. The site recommended I use the forum rather than send email. And the description for the category that the "Software" forum is in suggested that if I'm unsure where to put the topic, "simply choose the forum you think fits best." That train of thought lead to my posting here.

Anyways, the software that concerns me is "Daisy", posted on the MajorGeeks website: http://majorgeeks.com/Daisy_d4023.html

I obtained the email of the author through the FAQ page he provided for his software, but after sending my email to him I received the following automated response:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 User unknown (state 14).

Here was my email message:

Hi.

I tried your software but have been unable to get it to run due to the Messenger issue. I tried the walk through given in your FAQ for "Issue 3", but that causes the program to begin "Downloading initialization file". Unfortunately, the progress bar doesn't actually progress, and the program doesn't do anything, forcing me to shut it down using the Task Manager.

Any way around this? Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I made sure the "-m" was placed (with space) after the last quotation mark for what's in the Target field. I the double-clicked the shortcut for daisy.exe when the problem I described above occured.

'Daisy' has not been updated in over 4 years. If you need to check for updates, most programs have an option that will check for updates every time the program is launched, and for Windows updates, you can enable Automatic Updates to notify you when updates are available. There are other apps that do more-or-less the same thing as 'Daisy', just I can't remember any of 'em right now. :-o My memory sucks. I did some quick poking around here at Major Geeks but didn't find anything, but I didn't look real hard.

Hi

Very likely that the creator of that application has moved on and is not at Virginia Tech anymore, hence the email bouncing back.

Messenger service since that application was written has become a security issue, with many malware writers targeting that application, in Windows XP iirc it was disabled by default in SP2, Could if you wanted to *which I wouldnt* do the reverse of this but you would be leaving yourself open to malware, thats if this service was not removed in that SP.

If you are trying this application on Vista then dont bother as messenger service doesnt exist.

Went through a few pages and could try the emial at bottom of page and ask them your question on that app http://www.w2k.vt.edu/ couple of other email addresses here http://opensource.w2k.vt.edu/daisy.php

Something similar as an alternative is MBSA
