help cpu freezes when booting a game.

hey i just bought all new hardware for my computer, motherboard, visiontek Xtasy9600 video card, new memory, new hard drive.everytime i go to play half life or counter strike itll start up, i will go to walk around in the game then the computer just freezes. there aint a thing i can do but hit the switch. then turn it back on. i wish i knew the problem. i even bought the video card to see if it was graphic problems. and no that aint the answer please please pleaaassee somebody help me.i respecat all of u that do so. thanks see ya

Are you sure all the components match your MB specs?
Did you install patches to the games? Updated all drivers?
Have you tried lowering your video settings in each game?

 

yea i updated all drivers. sierra said that XP been giving halflife problems... but i think it may be on any game i play...
